Students with Families

Family Student Housing provides a limited number of one- and two-bedroom single-family units for full-time UCSB students. Storke and West Campus apartments are rented on a month-to-month basis and are both approximately one mile from the main campus. Families with children are given priority. Non-traditional and extended families are welcome. If you are interested in privately-owned accommodations in the community, be sure to contact Community Housing Services in advance of securing a place to stay.

• Full-time registered UCSB students with families
• If you are not yet a student, you can apply and your application will be added to a wait list (according to your application date) once you are accepted to UCSB. This is highly encouraged due to estimated wait time.
• Priority is given to families with children; otherwise, vacancies are filled in order by the date of application and desired move-in date.
• A "family" is defined as an established, long-term relationship with a mutual commitment in which members share the necessities of life and on-going responsibility for their common welfare. Eligible family members include:
  • Your child(ren)
  • Your spouse
  • Your domestic partner
  • Other family members must be reviewed and approved by University & Community Housing Services

  Roomers and/or boarders are not allowed to share apartments with approved tenants.

  The online application can be completed anytime, including prior to admittance to UCSB. If you are applying to Family Student Housing for the first time, complete all required fields (marked with a red " * ").

  • If you are a student when you apply, your application will go directly to a wait list.
  • If you are not yet a student, your application will be added to a wait list (according to your application date) once you are accepted to UCSB.
  • There is no deadline - the online application process is open throughout the year and you can apply before you are accepted to UCSB.
  • Update at the beginning of every quarter (you will receive email reminders). If you do not update your application, it will become inactive.
  • Contracts are not offered to people with inactive applications.
  • Update your contact information, especially email addresses and telephone numbers, so that we can reach you when we are able to offer you a contract.
  • Families with children: the average wait is 12-18 months, based on availability
  • Families without children: the average wait is 18-24 months, based on availability
  • Future renovation projects may extend the estimated waiting periods

  UC Santa Barbara requires renters insurance for all residents of campus housing. Renters insurance provides valuable protection if your personal belongings are stolen or damaged, including laptop computers, smartphones, bicycles, game consoles, textbooks, clothing, and other personal items. If your laptop or other valuables are stolen or damaged, you are responsible for replacing them - not the school. Renter’s insurance may also protect you financially for unintentional damage to the apartment and/ or bodily injury for which you are liable. The GradGuard insurance policy was designed for University of California students. Alternatively, you can check with your private homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy about coverage.
